Paris Fashion Week S/S 2012 - Day 2

Today was scorching hot again, feeling my sweat cover my body was rather gross whilst trying to maintain lipstick and a full fringe. It was tricky, also sporting my Linda Farrow for Luella sunglasses at all times just in case mascara had created panda eyes. Yes it was that hot.

My day began with Viktor and Rolf! I was so lucky to get this ticket, couldn't quite believe it.

My invite!

Held at the Jardin de Tuilleries, a stunning garden with fountains and autumnal trees with the brightest of suns, beautiful. The tent darkened and at the start of the catwalk, two girls were levitated a good few metres in the air, wearing dresses that went all the way down to the floor. In bright pink and soft blue, it was incredible to see and even better the girls started singing in their beautiful French accents, applause began instantly as the skirt opened up for the models to walk through!

The first look that went down the catwalk was a cute A-line skirt with woven giant ribbons on the side in a delightful blue, worn with a cropped bright salmon pink jacket also with black contrasted giant woven ribbon in the sleeve. Each look was very bold and the colours popped out from every angle, using a strong satin like fabric, there was a perfect sheen to each outfit.

An element of 1950's was seen as the A- Line silhouette kept cropping up as well as a sophisticated head scarf. The sweet coloured pastel palette was ultra feminine however the black input kept it chic and flattering. Candy floss pink was a main colour that was constant through the collection, which I surprisingly enjoyed as I'm not a usual fan of pink.

With a mixture of lengths, a floor length dress was soon revealed in a stunning hue of pink covered in an enlarged print of red lace. However the cut of the dress was kept simple keeping the look non fussy and elegant. A gorgeous swirl print which resembled the baroque Prada sunglasses collection was laser cutted on a champagne satin and layered on top of a soft tuelle. The two different fabrics and pattern was interesting and innovative yet wearable.

Deep delicious blues were used a coat which had the baroque swirl pattern on the lapels, perfect for those fashion forward Parisians.I definitely want one, I won't lie. The colour and the shapes created are so much fun and yet it still looks really sophisticated.

A flurry of ball gowns arrived, tiers of satin came billowing from the waist making it look extra small, strapless to show off those feminine shoulders and neck, looking regal and youthful. With diamantés seen here and there it was the perfect amount of sparkle for the satin gowns. Verging on tacky Viktor and Rolf just scraped by. However my favourite gown was the floaty champagne dress with a satin overlay of swirly cut outs and tuelle underneath, for me it was executed divinely on the catwalk.

The finale dress was a beautiful flocked wedding dress with a short veil and blusher. Overall, a exquisite show filled with bright bold and eccentric colours with the most exciting prints and cuts. Lots of wearable pieces created with exceptional skill and structure.

Sara Vidas

The Sara Vidas show used a palette of very light pastel colours as well as grey and white. Featuring skirts and tousers with paper bag style, elasticated waistbands over white sheer panelled shirts with soft pastel shade spots and panels.

The whole collection was very light and dreamy styled with queen of hearts lipstick, geisha spots and low, vintage looking shoes. Mixing a variety of different styles  sheer shirts with ruffled white bibs were tucked into baggy low slung jersey trousers. Following summer trends we saw a pleated sheer maxi in pastel rainbow over a white mini, all under an oversized cream knit jumper. The mixed styles in this collection made for a short but interesting show, the styling was also fantastic.

In a turn of controversy two of the models were glamourous older, grey haired ladies – walking around Paris you can see that many of the older generation have got much better dress sense than the youngsters!  This raised a question about vintage finds and the old ladies garments originally belonged to....
