338. Fashion Apprentice.

My time as an apprentice is nearly up, with only two weeks left to go I'm taking full advantage of my Thursday nights before I become a full timer. I know many of you guys like me want a job in fashion. Well here are my top tips to making a good impression and securing a job.

1. Be enthusiastic. - Ok so this may be a generic one that everyone goes on about, but showing that you're interested in the job shows you want to be there and that you are taking your position seriously no matter how big or small the job is.

2. Be friendly and confident. - Now I understand it's always a little intimidating meeting a new team of people but you need to make the effort to get to know your colleagues and team members, it just makes life so much easier. Don't be scared to approach people, and ask their name! Not gonna bite ya.

3. Perfection. - As I said you should be enthusiastic about any job big or small but you must also finish it to perfection. Finishing jobs so they are absolutely perfect is absolute key, don't let anyone find a glitch. However don't be afraid to ask them to check that what you're doing is right, it's ok if you make a mistake just correct it!

4. Stay focused. - Don't let anything distract you whilst doing a job, I'm easily distracted but I've learnt to focus and multi-task a little. You may get asked to do three jobs at once so prioritise and focus on getting the job done.

5. Persistence. - Don't ever give up, you will get there eventually. I've mopped floors, taken out trash but I've also sat front row at fashion shows. Sticking at a job until the end shows your dedicated and not just a flake.

Fashion Intern - Fool?

So since leaving Rainbow Wave I've had a couple of interviews. I applied to do an apprenticeship for House of Frase as a buying assistant. Oh it well considering...I got absolutely intoxicated the night before. Yes some could call me a fool, a nutter, an idiot but I managed to get to the interview just in time (first day of the olympics so I had an excuse for being 10 mins late) and pull together a clean polished look, given the fact I was hungover as. Yes I'm a real person and I'm not sensible.

Apparently I didn't do too badly seeing as I got invited to a 2nd interview. And dear lord, I was asked to create a presentation that would last no longer than 20 minutes and be as creative as I wanted to be. I was given the task of doing a customer profile on Biba, Mary Portas and Pied a Terre. Three brands which are exclusive to House of Fraser. I decided to actually visit the stores and speak to the staff who worked within the brands and take photos of the area. All the girls were so lovely and helpful it was so nice to see people enthusiastic and wanting to help me about their brands. Had a real good time speaking to them actually.

Anyway before my 2nd interview I had another interview else where for Elizabeth Saltzman. The amazing Vanity Fair editor as well as stylist and party planner for celebrities and all sorts. I rocked up to her house/office in heels (blog post poser #2) and met her lovely assistant. I was recommended by one of my co workers at Rainbow Wave to apply which I was very grateful for. It was a nice casual interview, and I loved the idea of the position. As always, with a perfect position comes a catch 22. They don't cover expenses. OHHHHHH FML. I was in such a tizzy I just didn't know what to do, normally I would completely disreguard the position altogether but this internship would be too good to miss.

Would I be a fool to not do an unpaid internship with Elizabeth Saltzman or would I be a fool not to prioritise the paid apprenticeship? Either way, looks like I'm a fashion fool.

Intern at Rainbow Wave - My pot of gold

It's been so hectic since I last posted about being an intern. Phwoar, let the essay begin. So since working on the PR side I had to learn fast. Rainbow Wave PR is now officially a seperate entity to Rainbow Wave. I did everything from, arranging send outs and e-mailing fashion editors, making sure every item were returned on time. Choosing suitable items for shoots, looking through all magazines and newspapers for press as well as online, updating all online files etc. I really enjoyed it, I learnt a lot, attention to detail is important! It was really weird knowing I was corresponding with important people like big photographers and stylists. 

All the Resort SS 13 collections were slowly trickling in, and before I jetted off to Thailand I got to see the new Carven and Peter Pilotto collection, it was so gorgeous.

On Wednesday evening after work Rainbow Wave threw a little bbq and invited a load of net-a-porter people over. It was really nice and casual, lots of food. We sat out on our deck, drinking wine and eating lots of pretzels and crisps. The bbq food was delicious, all tucking into sausages, burgers and kebabs whilst listening to some chilled out music. It was a lovely evening soiree to end a working day to.

The next day was the last day of my internship! I was ever so sad to be leaving. I've learnt so much and met so many lovely people! They could be reading this now...

...and hating me for putting these pictures up of them.

I was lucky enough to bag a pair of J Brand jeans and a book about Parisian Chic as a leaving present! Thanks Rainbow Wave team, I will miss you lots!
