What to wear - SS13

I thought I would put together some of my favourite runway looks from SS13, but looks which are wearable and what I think the high street will translate into something affordable. I could be completely wrong but these are the looks i'll be taking inspiration from.

Iridescent fabrics is something i'm looking forward to, the satins and the lame. It's not as in your face as glitter and sequins but it's still brings an ooze of glamour to your outfit.

Oversized and structural silhouettes are key, after the cocoon shape taking trend this winter the oversized look is here to stay. With big sleeves or big hips its important to contrast your piece with a perfectly fitting opposition.

Leather isn't going anywhere next season and I hope the pulled apart look translates to the high street.

White is always sported during the summer and the clean palette is refreshed with simple silhouettes, however it is easy to get dirty. 

What's clear next season is rounded off shoulders and arms, slightly masculine but it works well in soft colours to balance out the look.

PFW -Issey Miyake

With the rows half empty, 45 minutes late, us lesser mortals are still asked to stand at the back of the show... Lovely!

 

The show opens with a gentle musical lullaby and mute navy tones. Based around the flight of birds the colours become more daring and layers of soft, striped chiffon tunics become more complex layered prints. Colours turn from muted to bright primary colours before neons make an appearance- yellow, turquoise and green with black and white.

 

 

 

Reverting back to the traditional pleated structure of the issey miyake label we see delicate structure created but retaining a soft silhouette.

The attempt to modernise this look comes in the high fashion neon colours and the twisted head gear.

 

With a nod to nautical trends loose, cropped trousers are shown and striped details complete this look.

 

 

 

The models begin to weave in and out of each other, closely avoiding collisions and failing to keep their smiles hidden but the intention is clear. A riot of colour like a flight of tropical birds takes over the catwalk as the models interweave.

The block neon colours overlaid with black print on white pleated chiffon hanging beautifully. Neon salmon, vibrant purple and trendy turquoise pop on the runway.

 

Another mature, consistent collection from Issey Miyake - not breaking any boundaries but presenting what the press and public want to see.

NYFW - Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler has recently become the new designer about town after launching the brand in 2002. They've come a long way and this collection proved why they're successful. More of the boxy silhouette was see but these time in a lot more harsh lines and masculine feel. However this was later contrasted with pops and splashes of neon yellow and aqua blue. 

There was a high level of detail gone into this collection from the prints, bias cut and studding but all done in a beautifully down beat way. Lots of exoctic python skin in patchwork tones in refreshing bursts of lime punch and marine. The prints were composed to perfection, the colours worked cohesively and the cut of the clothes were more masculine than feminine how ever all the components balanced the look out.

This was definitely a collection was the cool kids of New York, using tumblr as a reference as well as being inspired by Gerard Richter. The styling was perfect and sold it to me in a heartbeat.
