Deep dark florals are a big blooming trend this Winter but their kept grungey and dark with somber colour palette. Christopher Kane's collection of inverted photographic floral print has a rather mystery feel about it without looking lifeless. I've teamed it up with with blacks and blues keep the rest of the outfit clean and the skirt to be the focus. With an added spike in the form of a ring, the mix of gold and gun metal tie in the colour palette together well.

It was the second day of fashion week and post mac make-over and pre Mark Fast. A little tired after another 9:00am show but happy as I was taking my bestie to her first ever fashion show. I'm enjoying these cmid-calf length trousers, I predict they will be here to stay until next summer at least. They've been splurged all over the catwalk, so let's wait and see...

300. Trends.

Trousers are even shorter than you're average ankle swinger for next season. They are cut to the mid-calf, potentially unflattering, they actually fall on the smallest part of your leg creating a slimming leg illusion. Hence why I rocked them at LFW if you saw my poser post a couple weeks back. Everyone has been doing them, and they look super cool fresh and comfortable. If you're tall wear the look with even baggier clothing but if you're smaller like me juxtapose the look with a snug fitting top. This is what I'll definitely be rocking for next season now the sun has gone away.

I woke up bright and early for the first show of the season, Bora Aksu. Starting at 9:00 I didn't feel pretty but I had prepared an outfit the night before knowing I'd be half awake when I got dressed. I experimented a little with colour, I've never worn bright orange with a caramel before but I think it works especially with the grandad coat. Rocking what I felt like was a 1950's secretary look, the Louboutins killed my feet by the end of the day. No lie, compeed is on the toes.

LFW AW13 - Marios Schwab

Lasts night show was truly enchanting. As the lights went out, everyone was anticipating what creations were

 about to glide down the runway. The runway slowly lit up, section by section and soon a model appeared in a 

cape and dress. Poised with attitude, the dresses still had softness in tone, covered in embellishment, a colour 

palette of wines and forest greens captured the audience with their fluid movement and perfectly formed silhouettes. 

Dresses were cut at the empire line with contrast panelled PVC blocks and sleeves gave the appearance of a caped

 outline. Hints of dark sea blue with textured iridescent fabrics were a highlight. There was a real sense of opulence 

and luxury to each look that went down. Materials such as velvet and silk chiffons, with subtle hints of glittering 

sequins in hues of burgundy and amethyst exuded an elegant innocence. Inspired by “calligrams” the term in which 

words create an image, the clothes form a story that was felt by the audience. The gowns seen in the final part of the 

collection were made of plush velvet and jewel tones, the use of fabric created an updated image of a 15th century 

fashion, a show worth waiting for each look made you want to be part of a captivating fairy tale..

LFW - Jean Pierre Braganza

Printed on the invitation was a cosmic like symbol, inspired by geometry and numbers and their symbolic meaning, Braganza believes the the female form is the ultimate cosmic being.
The first look that went down the run way was a head to toe gown covered in the invitation print, cool and edgy the proceeding looks were just as sci fi. 

Conveying dominant, cool and collected women, the looks we're clean and polished to perfection. Double hems were seen on entirely black outfits, contrasted with textured fabrics to bring the looks alive. Pony fur was seen on a gorgeous long line coat, simple yet effective his collection seemed to ooze effortless style. Cleverly cut, dresses had invisible looking pockets where the panels were infused into the side seam creating a beautiful illusion. Hints of peach were seen in small panels, and fur made a small appearance at the neck line, showing real glamour and sophistication.  

 Strong shoulders were key to creating his empowered woman, and asymmetry was at the centre of his collection. The most stunning tuxedo jacket strutted down the catwalk, with the front panels being longer than the back it was a fresh new take on modern tailoring. 

More of his prints slipped their way into the collection, making it feel a little more oriental as well as including kimono wraps and sleeves.  Highlights of white splashed onto trims of coats and dresses while opulent jade was infused into silk structural dresses and draped maxis. Braganza really showed off his talent this season with his variety of print, technique and shape, his finale dresses were show stoppers, including a sleeveless tuxedo top maxi dress, waisted to create the most slime line elegant silhouette, he achieved in creating a powerful fluid figure. 

LFW - Bora Aksu

Inspired by the dolly sisters of the 1920s this collection was a mix of masculinity and feminine silhouettes from the era. Battling between the glamour and opulence of the jazz era, the pencil tight shift dresses layered with a line cut sheer chiffon reflected women's restriction and the need to be free.

Corsets still played a part in leathers made up of faded algae and grey. The colour palette was muted, ivories, melange and moss started the collection well, slowly transitioning into pops of jewel purple and fuchsia which oozed the opulence of the 1920s. Key silhouettes were snug pencil skirts opposed to boxy cropped jackets, shoulders were prominent in the fact they were ruched, really making a statement. Art Deco head wear were seen on all models, the intricate headpieces caged round the forehead and down to the cheekbones, representing the forever stylish era well but also the concept of women being repressed at the time.

Scalloped webbed dresses created beautiful texture to the simple silhouettes, creating elegant sophisticated women. Fur was prominent in stunning fitted jackets, Aksu played with panelling, opposing fur and leather in strips for the corset a must have from his collection. Caped shoulders were in keeping of the romantic feel represented through the dolly sisters, often their hearts were hurt and the subtle injections of blue and pink represented that.

The collection was cohesive and the story told was beautiful, Aksu managed to capture the decade of the roaring twenties in a modern way, bringing it up to date with a variety of textures and fabrics.

Poser #5 LFW Day 2

After a dissapointing show I wasn't in the happiest of moods and my friend (ginger joe) insisted on taking a picture of me on a gridded floor. So I had to tip toe carefully so my heels didn't slip between the gaps. Not looking great but the lipstick adds a nice pop.

LFW - DAKS

 

Heritage fashion and beautiful craftsmanship, that’s what Daks are known for and they did it beautifully once again. Their summer collection was full off fluid soft silhouettes contrasted with masculine shapes, a reoccurrence that seems to be happening this season. His garments were inspired by expressionist painters such as Robert Motherwell, Jasper Johns and Clyfford still which was presented through the colour palette and bold silhouettes.

 

 

There were beautiful cacoon coats, where the arm was structure but create clean sleek lines, paired with silk billowing trousers the model glided down the model with poise and perfection. Perfection is a good word to describe Daks. Everything is precisely made, tailored flawlessly and elegantly. The show started with a palette made up of chalky creams and whites which slowly blended into peaches and burnt oranges. Playsuits were two toned made up of fabrics which juxtaposed each other from sheer to opaque. They played with proportion as well as fabrics, using silk gazar and translucent nylon to produce stunning semi-see through anoraks and parkas. They glided down the catwalk languidly, taking a new direction for the brand.

Collaborating with Aimee Betts to create hand stitched and embroidered fabric which was seen on simple clean cut dresses and skirts. We saw luxury float down that catwalk with tones of black and deep navy, lots of sleeveless coats were shown with more of the cacoon shape gaping at the back. We saw classic injections of the trench coat updated and cape with their heritage print but also the most modern slinky black midi dresses which were cut in the most delightful slim ling way possible.

LFW - Willow

From the invitation I instantly see hints of sheer, soft and delicate connotations. The invitation was a plank of wood (willow I assume) wrapped in grease proof like paper and string. Like a little parcel. I didn’t quite know what to expect as I haven’t been to one of her shows before. But the catwalk space was located underground, rather mysterious. It was very dark as I entered, and as soon as the first look went down the runway it was obvious that her style was delicate and soft just like her invitation.

Willow wanted to capture the moment “between imagination and reality – omnipotence of a dream” and she achieved it. The first looks were made up of biker jackets with added peplums at the bottom, but instead of black they were nude peaches with a softened leather look, to juxtapose the top half the bottom half was a soft floaty skirt. Details of silver zips were added to give the shimmering eye catching glimmer which complimented the natural palette.

The skirts and trousers billowed palazzo style down the runway in a great midi length, this cut was beautiful as it elongated as well as slim the legs. The fabrics contrasted against design on the garments, giving a balance between the two as if dream and reality were battling each other. 

A delightful short sleeve cardigan left the runway in a black knitted fine wool, trimmed with leather. This would be a look I’d love to have in my wardrobe, paired with another floaty black midi skirt. The looks were slick elegance, natural faces and poke straight hair. Peach metallic made a subtle entrance on white dresses enhancing the idea of dreaming. It was rather beautiful. The last two dresses were spectacular, the two dresses were made in the softest shade of grey in organza, the centre bodice was edged in peach metallic embroidery and the winged arms billowed behind like bubbles being blown. Shimmering iridescently and magically down the catwalk the finale looks topped of the show.

So the long awaited collaboration with J.W.Anderson and Topshop is just around the corner and Vogue have teased us with images.

The looks he's designed hasn't been compromised at all as a collaboration and it's very much J.W.Anderson all over, from the quilted paisley to the beautiful shirts. I have my eyes on the pinafore! If only I had money...

A good shirt dress, I like the concealed buttons and prim collar. This on it's own with a big statement necklace would be great for an effortless look.

I really like this collaboration as a whole, it;s definitely my favourite. If I had the money I would totally be going all out, maybe I'll buy one piece but that really would be naughty of me. Oopsy.

LFW - Day 5

Roksanda Ilincic

Set at The Institute of directors in Pall Mall, I was running 30 minutes late and got there just in time. It was hosted in beautiful surroundings with giant chandeliers and plush carpets. I tottered over to my seat, and the show swiftly begun. It began with a deep burgandy dress with large rounded off shoulders. This was a frequent look down the catwalk, a structured minimalistic look that was surprisingly wearable. Plush velvet played a part as well as her signature contrasting exposed zips and the muchly anticipated cleverly draped dresses. Fur was beautifully placed on the back of the neckline to create a subtle glamourous look for the winter. Injections of tourquoise and jewel purple made an appearance in block panels of dresses and skirts, mixed with navy wool blazers which had gold thread woven into them. There was a definite sporty feel to the collection with sweaters and cotton ribbed jumpers.  Tweeds appeared on skirts accompanied with delicately placed bead work.  A gorgeous maroon jumpsuit appeared sleeveless so that a prim white shirt could be worn underneath. A very simple put together look. Fur continued to be present within the collection making bold statements at the hem off dresses and at the shoulders. Black inky lines were printed on white dresses which were elegant and tailored. A beautiful collection, with boxy chic silhouettes and a hint of cosmopolitan glamour, something I can’t wait to wear. 

Ji Cheng

The collection called Zen Awakening, denotes that “thought is not thinking, but it’s relying on the inner senses to constantly examine actions, allowing a disordered mind to focus.” The first time she’s ever shown her collection in London, she has mixed traditional Chinese elements with Western culture. Black, red, orange were at the centre of the colour palette as well as a hint of off white towards the end of the show. With rounded off shoulders on the coats, the designs were pretty and simple. Nothing overwhelming or in your face was seen however there were hints of traditional Chinese pattern edged round necklines. Inverted collars emerged on a shirt or two as well as the woven technique on a blouse that was bold. Most of the dresses had a kimono, wrap look to it using opposing colours such as nudes and neon yellows, off whites and blood red. The finale piece was a beautiful black stiff material with layered striped plastic like material layered over it in a cocoon shape. This wasn't anything new or exciting to be honest however the models were heel-less, one bald model and I nearly fell asleep...

Leutton Postle

The collection went off with a bold start, with knitted pom pom dresses from the beginning it was obvious that Leutton Postle was for the more eccentric palette. The colours were vibrant and clashed in every aspect. A skirt, jacket and shirt ensemble were all made from the reverse applique technique which had a matisse feel as there were faces embedded in the patterns. The main colour being a silk maroon had bursts of pink foil, sea blue and navy revealed by the applique. More of the reverse applique technique was seen on leggings, jumpers and trousers. Knitwear played a huge part of the collection, with more faces incorporated in the apparel, the muted tones of mixed with inky blues and fuschia. They certainly weren’t scared to utilise their materials with splashed of tinsel and glittery yarn to illuminate the collection. Using layered knitwear in the collection was perfect for the Autume/Winter collection and they came in forms of cardigans, jumpers, shorts, tank tops and more. There was a real sense of creativity within the show, from a range of beautiful knitted techniques to blocks of colours in different textures. The show was fun and frivolous with some really eccentric pieces.

LFW - Day 4

Lako Bukia

The A/W collection called “broken mirrors” inspired by the Georgian beliefs that if you look into a broken mirror, it’s considered bad luck. This too was a representation of the designers’ time in the fashion industry, in a world where it’s hard to survive and strength is something that has to be maintained, the collection was made of strength, fierceness and edge. The catwalk started with a floor length long sleeved glittery foil-esque dress with a V back. Very striking and gorgeous, all the models had dark futuristic eyebrows which enhanced the ferociousness of the collection.  Although an androgynous look to each outfit, it was all very wearable. With fabrics made from black suede’s and leather as well as a lurex, glittery foil fabric which was incredibly fluid. Triangle panels sewn onto sheer chiffons were frequently seen on skater skirts, tapered trousers, dresses and shirts. Charcoal black suede trousers mixed with glittering geode like fabrics. The effect was simply stunning, with dresses cinched at the waist there was a hint of femininity within the edgy collection. Later on collarless and sleeveless coats arrived in thick wool which was so simple and sculpted. The materials evoked ideas of granite and meteor rocks, when they subtly glisten in the light. The finale piece was a midi dress with a mirror mosaic scattered from one shoulder down to the hip fading out, as the model finished the catwalk a burst of silver confetti surprised us all to the end of a beautiful show.
